Why do people convince themselves of pretend things?

if you lived life honesty you wouldn't think man with his 5 senses can understand the whole universe...that we are limited creatures...that we don't possess all knowledge to dismiss the idea of a creator, or something beyond our 5 senses...an honest life would admit i just don't know...instead of saying there can't be God...
