Is it cruel or mean to try to train a dog not to do something that comes naturally?

It certainly isn't mean to train a dog to refrain from behaviors that come naturally. Otherwise, it would be mean for us to train them not to eat poop, chase cars, jump up on people, etc. Just because it may be considered a natural behavior does not mean they should be allowed to engage in that behavior.
