Cheap and birds never go hand in hand. Even for finches. I have done some very creative things for my birds, but I took the time to know what their needs were first. But to answer your question....anything that will allow ventalation, room, nests, and visability, will be good. I had mine in an antique jewelry case that had screens and vents. It was easy to clean, and had ample room for them to fly. For every pair I offered two nests. If you have more than one pair in a aviary you need the extra nest or they will fight for the best if you have one nest left over no one has to take the worst. It is a finch saving face kind of thing.
